Our History
The success of the watchmaking company Art de Suisse is attributed to several generations of the family, but most importantly to Mehmet Kazazi, who in 1865 adopted a new surname – Sahatciu, which means “Watchmaker”. From that moment on, Mehmet Sahatciu tirelessly worked to create a brand that would embody his values for future generations. The result of his lifelong work was not only precisely crafted quality watches, but much more – it was a dynasty of skilled craftsmen from all over Kosovo.
Our father, Bajram Sahatciu, became an active member of the family business in 1951, when he was only 8 years old. He learned watchmaking by observing his father, who gave his son the same knowledge he had gained from his own father almost a century ago.
At the age of 16, Bajram Sahatciu, as the first in the family, received an education in watchmaking. To this day, he is one of the most respected and skilled watchmakers in the Southeast. In the late 1970s, as a result of the war in the Balkans, the Sahatciu family had to partially distance themselves from the watchmaking industry and switch to producing luxury jewelry. However, some members of the family continued to exclusively focus on watchmaking. Our long journey in the world of watchmaking was accompanied by ups and downs, but we have always remained true to our roots and traditions. Our passion for this art and determination to become the very best in our chosen field have largely been our driving force and have brought us to the world-renowned spa town of Karlovy Vary, where our boutiques are now located and where we continue to pass on the family profession to the younger generation – our children.
